Shadow hunter season 1 episode 7
The episode just felt so much more mature, it's been growing in how serious it is lately, but this episode just felt like the complete package if that makes sense? I really like the coloring of the scenes, the fight was raw, I think seeing Clary lose and get serious injury too made the stakes more real suddenly, things like this and Jocelyn's death make being a Shadowhunter actually seem really dangerous and not just a lot of posing and pouting. I agree it's probably not completely irreversible, but how he really hurt Clary and killed his grandma I think it's going to be a long road for them, and I still lean towards this being a part of a writing plan by the new showrunners to reboot their relationship. And it was nice to have Malec get down to business, I like it when they're all on equal footing working together, although I still miss Alec being in the field and fighting.
I think you're right about that, the stuff with Maia felt serious but also it was good that she dealt with it on her own and faced Jordan and Simon gave her space, she's always felt way too mature for Simon. Nice to see Johnathan is all snug and safe in his goo bath, miss ya evil buddy! So, Clary is the one who ends up locked in a cell, I definitely think they're swapping her and Jace's roles from the books. Maryse' de-runing also adds a lot of weight to these decisions that break Clave laws, I'm real tense about who is going to get in the most trouble over all this.
It's also good to see big magical decisions having consequences, not just bringing Jace back, but the prospect that Magnus can't snap his fingers and undo the love charm either, this along with Clary reflecting on if it would be better if they never met makes me really wonder if this is going to be reversible at all. When they write her complex and mature like this instead of giving her relationship fluff with Jace or Simon she is excellent, I know some people dislike her and her portrayal but I think it's honestly mostly been the writing that's let her down in the past. Clary was just A+ all episode and I like that she took the fall too and has from the start accepted the idea of punishment for what she's done. Wow, I think this is the best episode they've done, it looked great, the writing was great, Maia was awesome, that fight scene was brutal, and Dick-Jace is way more interesting than regular Jace.
